Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival - Hanoi city tour (L)

Upon arrival at Noi Bai Airport in the morning, our guide and driver will pick you up, have lunch and transfer to hotel for check in. Take cyclo ride through the streets of the old quarters, visit to a Laquerware and eggshell art studio and also the Waterpuppet show.

Day 2: Hanoi - Halong Bay (B, L, D)

07:30 Pick up at your hotel in Hanoi and transfer to Halong bayIndochina Sails boarding time is at 12:15 pm. Upon boarding guests are greeted with a welcome drink and gather in the dining room for a comprehensive safety and boat orientation briefing followed by itinerary details.
After the briefing and check in we have a bit of free time till lunch is served at 1:00pm. Lunch is a multi-course Vietnamese and Western set menu. Any and all dietary needs will be catered to.
During lunch we cruise through the Bai Tu Long Bay, cruising through the most beautiful and quiet area in Bai Tu Long Bay and Halong Bay to visit Cua Van Fishing Village. Cua Van Floating Fishing Village (the largest fishing village on the Bay). At the village, which has a population of about 600 residents living in about 150 floating houses, guests can choose between kayaking through the village or visiting on small bamboo boats (sampans) rowed by the villagers.
Back on board after visiting the village there will be free time of about one and a half hours before the Cooking Class on board will be held by our Chef and all the passengers could attend to this. During that time the chef will conduct aCooking Class showing the guests how make some Vietnamese food which is traditional food in Vietnam and guests will taste the food after the class. In addition we will have the first of our double happy hours from 6:00 till 7:00 during which time one free drink will be received for each one ordered. The dinner is served at 7:30pm. Dinner is a sumptuous buffet featuring an array of salads, seafood, meat dishes, seasonal fresh fruits and deserts. After dinner guests can relax in the dining room and lounge or on the upper deck and enjoy the second happy hour from 9:00 till 10:00. Board games and playing cards are available and massage services as well (massage service is available throughout the cruise). Also, everyone can try their luck at squid fishing from the boat with help from the crew.

Day 3: Halong Bay (B, L, D)

The next morning coffee, tea and breakfast pastries are on offer from 6:45. Tai Chi lessons are led by our tai chi master at 7:00 before breakfast is served at 7:45. At 8:30 the guests transfer to the Indochina Sails Day Boat, a spacious and comfortable wooden junk with lounge and dining room and a sundeck with lounging furniture. The day’s activities include cruising to less trafficked areas of the Bay for swimming, kayaking at the Bat Cave and a visit to the Pearl Village where there are extensive fish farms and a working pearl processing factory and showroom. Lunch is served on board mid-day and passengers return to the Indochina Sails main boat at about 4:00pm for free time on board till the pre-dinner happy hour from 6:00 till 7:00 and dinner at 7:30.After dinner guests can enjoy their second evening on the Bay relaxing in the dining room and lounge or on the upper deck and enjoy the happy hour from 9:00 till 10:00. Board games and playing cards are available and massage services as well (massage service is available throughout the cruise). Also, everyone can have another chance to try their luck at squid fishing from the boat with help from the crew.

Day 4: Halong Bay - Hanoi - Hue (B, L) - by flight

The next morning coffee, tea and breakfast pastries are on offer from 6:45. Tai Chi lessons are led by our tai chi master at 7:00 before we leave the boat at 7:45 for a walking tour of Titov Beach Island. About one hour is spent on the island allowing time for a climb up the steps to the peak for a breathtaking 360 degree view of the Bay (there is also an expansive viewing deck half way up). After the climb there is time left to relax on the beach and have a swim.Back on board it’s time for final packing and freshening up before enjoying a full breakfast buffet, including traditional Vietnamese Noodles (Pho). After breakfast guests may relax in the dining room and lounge or on the deck enjoying the last Bay views before disembarkation at 11:00am. 11:00 Transfer by tender to the pier, relax inside the pier building while waiting for return transportation. Our driver will transfer you to the airport for the flight to Hue (VN 1545 – 19:15 – 20:25). Pick you up at Hue and check in hotel.
18:00Transfer to the airport for the flight (VN1547 – 20:25 – 21:35) to Hue.

Day 5: Hue city tour - Hoi An (B, L)

After breakfast at hotel, you will visit the Imperial Citadel – the grand complex of palaces built by Nguyen Dynasty (the last Dynasty of Vietnam feudalism). Visit Thien Mu Pagoda – the symbol of Hue tourism. Then visit two of the most beautiful royal tombs of Nguyen Dynasty Kings: Khai Dinh and Tu Duc tombs (If time permits). After lunch, we leave Hue for Da Nang through the Hai Van tunnel-the greatest tunnel in Asia. Stop at the Marble Stone factory on the way to Hoi An.

Day 6: Hoi An (B)

Free at leisure at the hotel and then discover Hoi An city by yourself.

Day 7: Hoi An - Da Nang - Ho Chi Minh city - Cu Chi Tunnels (B, L) - by flight

An early morning transfer to the airport for a short flight (VN127 – 10:05 – 11:20) to Ho Chi Minh City. Our guide will pick you up at the airport and drive to Cu Chi Tunnels.

Day 8: Ho Chi Minh city – Cai Be “The Sea of Mangroves” (B, L, D)

Registration is at 12:00 at the Renaissance Riverside Hotel. Bid farewell to the hustle and bustle of Saigon while settling into your cabin. The ship will begin by meandering along busy ports and waterways. Soon after, the change is abrupt and you’ll find yourself in the UNESCO listed Mangrove Biosphere Reserve of Can Gio which had been destroyed during the Vietnam War by toxic chemicals. Amazingly, the 75 hectares of forest has come back to life through a reforestation. Enjoy a cocktail reception at the Funnel Bar and Lounge followed by a Welcome Dinner on the Sun Deck. Drop anchor just outside of Cai Be for the night.

Day 9: Cai Be – Chau Doc “Vietnamese inventiveness (B, L, D)

Today’s tour starts with the visit of Cai Be’s colorful floating market. Cruise among local sampans coming from all provinces of the delta full of fruits and vegetables. Proceed to Dong Hoa Hiep island located between Vinh Long and Cai Be. During a 40 minute cruise, discover beautiful landscapes along the river and observe the typical Mekong Delta rural life. These evergreen islands among the MekongRiver still remain unknown to many people. Back on the sampans, we will lead to you to observe the activity of the biggest rice stock market in Cai Be. Further stops will allow you to see traditional brick and tile factories and how locals use palm leaves for houses. Cruise 20 minutes further to Phu An hamlet passing by Cai Be’s beautiful cathedral. Visit some interesting home factories to see how rice paste, rice cookies and coco candies, are made, along with the longan fruit drying process. Lunch will await you at Le Longanier, a superb Indochinese villa located in a lush tropical garden by the river, surrounded by fruit orchards. After lunch, group 1 takes a stroll along the canals to experience the local environment first hand while group 2 explores the edges of the canals on bicycle. After touring the canals, head to the An Kiet ancient house to have tea with the descendants of the former imperial residents. Board the Jayavarman for a relaxing evening cruise towards Chau Doc. Moor midstream overnight. Overnight on junk.

Day 10: Chau Doc – Border crossing “Taste of aqua cultural life” (B, L, D)

Welcome to the circus of fish. The early birds will be treated to Thai Chi lessons on the Sun Deck. Brace yourself for a boat excursion to the exciting floating villages and catfish farms witnessing masses of bassa fish being fed, hand in hand with a shore excursion to the village of the local Muslim Cham community. Take a ride through this fascinating town of rich French colonial architecture and see its bustling market flooded with tropical fruits in full display by women in cone shaped palm leaf hats. Observe beautiful textiles being woven on old wooden looms; a tradition that has been passed from generation to generation. By mid-afternoon, The Jayavarman casts off for the border towards Phnom Penh.

Day 11: Phnom Penh “Pearl of the East” (B, L, D)

Off we go early in the morning to witness a truly indescribable scene while approaching Phnom Penh’s river promenade. After breakfast, embark on a city tour in this dynamic, historical capital of Cambodia which has retained its French colonial charm. Sightseeing in the morning will include the dazzling white and gold architecture of the RoyalPalace, outstanding displays of Khmer crafts at the NationalMuseum and the temple on a hill - Wat Phnom. After lunch in a local restaurant, examine the painful, heart wrenching reminders of Cambodia’s ugly past under the Khmer Rouge regime with an excursion to the infamous “Killing Fields”; the former detention, torture and execution centers during the Cambodian civil war. Introduction and onsite lecture by a local history professor. Thereafter, to ease the nerves a variety of cocktails will be at your disposal, followed by Cambodia’s traditional Apsara dance performance. Experience the brilliance and richness of the culture, the soothing sounds of traditional music, the calming scent of incense sticks and a delicious Khmer food buffet.

Day 12: Phnom Penh – Kampong Cham “Monks and hilltops” (B, L, D)

Depart before the break of dawn from Phnom Penh with a stop at the little known Chong Koh silk weaving village for a leisure walk. We cruise past the Mekong’s tranquil villages and mind blowing river life with scores of fishermen on duty. Visit Wat Nokor, a wat built within the ruins of an ancient temple that holds a timeless story. Then, travel to the CheungKokEcotourismVillage, a small village developed with support from Assistance Médiation Internationale (AMICA). Travelers can visit the village and take part in activities to experience village life. Profits from tourism go towards re-investment into long-term projects.

Day 13: Kampong Cham – Wat Hanchey “Cambodia’s province and the wetlands (B, L, D)

Wake up in the wee hours of the morning, truly energized to embark on a journey upriver to the pre-Angkorian temple of Wat Hanchey. Located at the top of a hill overlooking the river, it offers some of the best views in Cambodia. Dating from the 8th century, these ancient structures do justice to the architecture of the Chenla Empire which predated the glories of the mighty Angkor. Enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding well organized rice paddy plains, as well as a travelers blessing performed by the local monks.

Day 14: Kampong Cham – Kampong Chhnang – Tonle Sap “Waterworld” (B, L, D)

Before the sun rises, The Jayavarman sets sail to Kampong Chhnang via Prek K’dam along the meandering Tonle SapRiver, which narrows through leafy swaths of the South East Asian jungle. Take a walk through Kampong Louang, one of the last silversmith villages, to see the entire community involved in making various silver items to sell. Get back aboard The Jayavarman to eat lunch while cruising towards Kampong Chhnang. After lunch, take a motorboat excursion from Kampong Chhnang to see the wetlands, floating houses and fish farms in the region. Make a stop at a Heritage Line sponsored floating school to interact with the children and teach them some English! This is the day to truly experience rural Khmer life. In the evening, a mouth watering Farewell Dinner will be served on the Sun Deck.

Day 15: Tonle Sap – Siem Reap “Angkor Awaits” - Departure (B)

This great lake dominates Cambodia and is over 150 km in length. The birdlife is profuse and from the middle of the lake one cannot even see the shores. Witness stillness and tranquillity on the way to Siem Reap. The water level varies a great deal according to the time of the year and the amount of rainfall recorded. Thus, changes may occur for the different seasons. High Water Program (approx. between July and December). Cross the Tonle SapLake at dawn and 11:00 disembark at Siem Reap Port for onward coach transfer to the hotel by 12:00 pm.
Drop off at Victoria Angkor Resort & Spa in Siem Reap. Then our driver will transfer you to the airport for your departure flight.
